Filling in texture on kitchen table top

Melissa W · May 5, 2024, 09:18

Hi there - my kitchen table has a lot of texture, sort of like a weathered driftwood look. It's lovely but not so easy to keep clean. Is there anything clear that I can use to level out some of the texture, without losing the look? Thanks!

Hi,

Can you please send pictures of the table.

We would also need to know what finish is on the table.

Kind Regards,

Here are a couple of photos. About 10 years ago I put a finish on it. Probably Minwax polyurethane or something similar to that. Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for pictures. To remedy the situation, you will have to strip and sand in order to apply a new finish of your choice.

We prefer oils as this brings out the warmth of the wood.

We suggest the [Osmo TopOil]. Follow manufacturer instructions for best possible results.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for the reply. I was asking for something that would fill in the texture, not just a thin finish. Do you sell any products that are thicker but still clear that will fill in the texture? Thanks.

You will not be able to simply apply a new finish over the top of the existing finish.

The existing finish is worn and needs to be redone.

Thanks, I understand that. I was more looking for assistance on a type of product that is thicker for filling in texture. I suspect the oil you've suggested will not do that, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

Once sanded the texture will be smoother.
