Buttermilk Paint

Discontinued

4.7/5 · 7 reviews

Old Village Buttermilk Paint is a ready-to-use interior/exterior paint which dries to a durable flat finish, and can be coated with water based varnish, oil or wax, just like Milk and Chalk paint. Buttermilk Paint is highly desirable as a color coat on woodwork, furniture, decorative objects, as well as for antique furniture reproduction.

Old Village Buttermilk Paint is a great alternative for users of milk and chalk paints, as it offers the best of both worlds: Requiring no preparation/mixing and nonperishable, as opposed to Milk Paint, Buttermilk Paint is offered in 24 colors, which are brighter than pastel tones traditionally found in Chalk paint. Old Village Buttermilk Paint is water based and is made from natural earth pigments. The 24 available colors are a reminder of the New England Colonial era. The colors may be intermixed or lightened with white.

Tutorials to help you achieve antique/used furniture finishes with Old Village Buttermilk Paint:

How to Use

Surface Preparation:

  • Surface should be free of all dirt, dust, grease and other surface contaminates. All loose, cracked and flaking paint should be removed by scraping and sanding. Any glossy surfaces should be sanded to a dull finish to allow proper adhesion of the new coat of paint. Bare areas can be spot primed with this paint.
  • Metal Surfaces: Metal surfaces should be primed with a metal primer.

Application:

  • Stir thoroughly before and during use. When more than one container of the same colour is to be used they should be mixed together before starting.
  • Old Village Buttermilk Paint may be applied by brush, roller or spray equipment.
  • Apply liberally when the air temperature is between 10°C and 32°C (50°F-90°F).
  • Thinning should not be necessary, but if needed use only a little water.
  • Tools may be cleaned with soap and water. Dries to the touch in 2 hours; may be recoated after 4 hours.
