When should I replace the needle on my HLVP spray gun?

To know when to replace the needle on your spray gun, it is important to pay attention to certain signs of wear and performance. Here are some indicators that can help you determine when it is time to change the tips:

  • If the quality of the spray deteriorates and the jet becomes irregular, this may be a sign that the needle is worn.
  • If you notice that the time required to spray a given surface increases, this may also indicate that the needle is worn and needs to be replaced.
  • Paint leakage: If you observe paint leaks around the needle, this can be a sign of wear.
  • Visual inspection: Regularly inspect the tips for signs of wear, such as dull edges or cracks.
  • For high-volume users: Keep track of the amount of material you have sprayed with each needle. As mentioned earlier, the needle can wear out after 40 to 50 gallons of latex or other abrasive materials, while less abrasive stains will last longer.
  • Finally, it is recommended to always have spare needles on hand so that they can be replaced quickly if needed.
