Can shellac be coated with a water-based lacquer?

Shellac is an exceptional finish known for its transparency and coloration. It is considered a high-end finish, although it is not very resistant to abrasion. However, it is easily repairable.

Some users get discouraged and abandon the application of shellac because it requires more maintenance than modern lacquers. However, shellac enthusiasts can still reinforce this finish by applying two thin coats of spray lacquer, such as the Emtech EM6000 lacquer or Ardec Polyclear. These lacquers do not claim to be more aesthetically pleasing than shellac. However, they are much more resistant to abrasion and moisture. Additionally, they allow for easy changes in the sheen of the finish.
