OrganoWood 01. Wood Protection is a water based wood protective product that consists of silicon minerals and natural plant substances. The treated timber receives protection against rot attack and adds flame protective properties. The OrganoWood is designed for pressure-impregnated lumber for decking, patios, terraces and docks, or untreated facings and more.

OrganoWood 01. is absorbed quickly by the chosen wood material where it then cures during the drying process. OrganoWood 01. binds to the fibres in the timber thanks to the award-winning and patented OrganoClick technology for modifying biofibres. When the silicon substances bind to the wood fibres an environment is created where wood-decay fungi do not thrive. Furthermore, the silicon substances are non-combustible, which gives the timber its flame protection. The product is colourless and does not change the colour of the timber significantly directly after application. The treated wood takes on a beautiful silver grey hue with time.

The OrganoWood wood protection system is comprised of three products: 01. Wood Protection, 02. Surface Protection and 03. Wood Cleaner. Together they create a durable and comprehensive wood protection system that protects the surface against fungal attack and provides better flame protection.

OrganoWood 01. contains only substances that can be returned to the natural cycle.

  • Easy to apply
  • Effective wood protection.
  • Creates a beautiful silver gray surface.
  • Water and dirt repellent.
  • Reduces the need for future maintenance.

Directions for use

Application areas

The product can be used for surface treatment of virtually all untreated and pressure treated timber with a few exceptions. The treatment works well on absorbing woods such as pine and spruce. Use of the product on wood with a low absorption capacity can result in a short-term color change. Together with OrganoWood 02. Surface Protection creates a complete wood protective system that further extends the life of the wood, counteracts moisture damage and unwanted superficial growth.

Application

Untreated or pressure treated wood, new or old, must be cleaned prior to treatment with OrganoWood 03. Wood Cleaner. Oiled, painted or surface treated wood must be sanded before treatment to open the wood fibers. Painting prior to the treatment is not possible as the wood protection is not compatible with paint (e.g. glazing paint). Perform the treatment on dry wood at a temperature of at least 10 °C and with as low a risk of rain or dew. The liquid can react with glass, if there is a risk of the liquid coming into contact with the glass, cover the glass. If possible, treat all sides prior to installation. OrganoWood 01. coverage is about 8-10 square meters per liter (85 sq. feet/liter).

  1. Pour out the required amount of liquid in a separate plastic container.
  2. Apply the product following the wood grain using a brush or roller.
  3. Allow to dry for about 6-10 hours.
  4. Any surplus product on the surface of the wood can create white salt deposits. These can be easily brushed off with a nylon or steel brush alternatively fine sandpaper before continuing the treatment. Otherwise these will disappear in time.
  5. Final treat the surface with OrganoWood 02.

Saw cuts

In the event that cutting, piercing holes or other minor processing is unavoidable, the processed surfaces must be treated again with OrganoWood 01. in order for the rot protection to remain optimal. We recommend that visible wood ends are treated with OrganoWood 02. Surface Protection for optimal protection.

After-treatment and maintenance

In the event of soiling or unwanted superficial growth (e.g. algae), wash the timber with OrganoWood 03. After washing we recommend the decking is treated with OrganoWood 02. This to create a more hydrophobic surface and minimise the risk of unwanted growth and the amount of dry cracks. On account of the denser structure and hydrophobicity created on the surface of the timber when treated with the wood protective system from OrganoWood, traditional paint does not penetrate into the timber in the same way as normal timber. Consequently, OrganoWood treated timber should not be painted.

Greying process

Timber that is treated with OrganoWood 01. and 02. wood protection takes on a grey hue over time. The greying process can appear differently during the seasons and depending on the weather conditions. In some cases the greying may initially be perceived as speckled or as dark spots/fields, but this evens out relatively quickly. After about 1 year an OrganoWood timber that is placed outdoors in direct sunlight already has a grey hue. In shadow this may take longer, but the end result is the same. Wood installed horizontally often has a faster greying process than wood installed vertically.

FAQ

Can OrganoWood be used on horizontal surfaces as well as sidings?

Although OrganoWood products are relatively new to the Canadian market, they have demonstrated their effectiveness in several European countries with astonishing results, combined with ease of use and minimal maintenance. OrganoWood products are perfectly suited for this type of project and provide a Scandinavian-inspired gray-silver aesthetic as well as great protection and durability. Be sure to carefully consult the technical data sheets for both necessary products, namely Product 01. (Wood Protection) and Product 02. (Surface Protection). For regular care and maintenance, OrganoWood Product 03. (Wood Cleaner) is the recommended product.
